THE MYFA EXPERIENCE
THE HISTORY

The Maryland Youth Football Alliance (MYFA) was established in the fall of 2015. MYFA was formed by member organizations that were previously a part of the (GBYFL) Greater Baltimore Youth Football League. The GBYFL was made up of organizations that were in the Baltimore & Harford counties. As the GBYFL expanded further into the rural areas of Baltimore City, some of the member organizations had no desire to travel to those programs inside of the city lines.

Following the 2013 season, a few programs from Baltimore & Harford county collectively left the GBYFL to join the (UCYFL) Upper Chesapeake Youth Football League & the (MMYFCL) Mid Maryland Youth Football & Cheer League. With the uncertainty of the future of the league, the remaining organizations & leadership formed a partnership with the Greater Metropolitan Youth Football League (GMYFL) for the 2014 season. Our encounter with the GMYFL was definitely eye opening. We had never experienced that kind of size, skill & speed of unlimited football. After having a successful season with the GMYFL, we realized that there was a void in Baltimore for unlimited football which led to the birth of MYFA.

 THE VISION

The vision behind MYFA was to create a reputable unlimited football league here in Baltimore & the surrounding counties led by its member organizations. MYFA was formed to create balance & fairness for all teams regardless of location. The belief was that Baltimore teams should be able to participate regardless of their location. As we took a look around at the programs that were in our area, we noticed that the Baltimore city & county teams were dominating the competition in the other leagues. MYFA’s goal was to have the Baltimore city & county organizations playing like competition in the same league. We shouldn’t have to go to other counties participating in other leagues when we have a solid foundation of programs right here in our own backyard.

Prior to the start of the 2018 season, MYFA has obtained its own National charter with the UYFL. Our 2018 champions traveled to compete for a national title in Florida. Although we weren’t able to capture a national title, our organizations had a great experience creating memories that will last for a lifetime. MYFA was able to provide some financial help to the champions that traveled to Florida. As a league, we will collectively continue to look for more ways to be able to provide more for the programs traveling to represent our league on the national stage.

Since MYFA has been established in 2015, we have introduced the MYFA Spring Flag & 7v7 league which will be entering its fourth season this spring as well as our 4/5 MYFA fall flag league. MYFA has also completed its fourth annual All Star game this past December. In the recent years we have faced All Stars from New York & Maryland. Our 14u All Star teams have just recently traveled to Florida & Virginia to compete in National All Star tournaments. MYFA is also one of the five premier leagues that participate In the All Pro State Tournament of Champions. In 2017, MYFA walked away with five of seven D1 All Pro State titles bringing our total to 8 All Pro State titles since we began participating in 2016.

THE EXPERIENCE

Here at MYFA, we strive to provide a quality experience & family atmosphere with each of our member organizations. MYFA takes pride in being competitive, great sportsmanship & most importantly CONCESSIONS. On Saturdays, we look forward to traveling to our opponent’s field, being able to setup our tents & chairs all day while we fellowship with the coaches, administrators & parents. We enjoy the exchange of the friendly trash talk & then being able to laugh & joke among our family.

WE want to participate in a league where I can go & feel comfortable around other coaches. WE want the parents to be able to have a great experience with the other parents. WE want the program directors to fellowship with the visiting program directors. WE want to be able to sit at the location & watch two programs compete all day. Why wouldn’t WE want to experience a friendly atmosphere where WE can unwind & fellowship after a long work week? For many of us, the football field is our peace of mind, it’s our sanctuary.
